We are seeking a hands-on Senior Software Engineer with a strong focus on privacy and security to help strengthen and evolve a globally recognized, high-traffic web platform. In this role, you will design and implement robust security features that protect millions of users while maintaining performance at massive scale. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure secure architectural decisions and resilient system design. Accountabilities:
- Design, develop, and deploy security and privacy-focused features within a large-scale web platform.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to promote secure architectural patterns and compliant implementation choices.
- Lead by example in code reviews, documentation, and technical decision-making to reinforce high standards in security and reliability.
- Conduct internal and external security and privacy reviews, identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities.
- Support incident response related to application security and privacy concerns.
- Maintain and improve security-critical components, addressing technical debt and strengthening system resilience.
- Contribute to anti-abuse systems, threat modeling, and defense strategies against emerging web and backend attacks.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience as a software engineer, ideally with a focus on security or privacy features.
- Strong experience building and maintaining modern web applications (PHP and JavaScript experience is a plus, but not mandatory if able to learn quickly).
- Solid understanding of secure software development practices, threat modeling, and privacy-by-design principles.
- Experience identifying, fixing, and reviewing code for security vulnerabilities.
- Ability to create proofs of concept, write design documents, and break down complex initiatives into actionable tasks.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex security concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in distributed, remote teams.
- Sensitivity to privacy and security challenges in large, international, user-driven platforms.
- Bonus: experience with anti-abuse systems, bot detection, backend/database security, or contributions to open-source projects.
