About the Opportunity
Western Sydney University is seeking a Senior Cyber Threat Intelligence Analyst to join the Digital Services Team. This position delivers expert threat intelligence analysis and operational support, enhancing the University’s cyber defence capabilities. The position drives the integration of intelligence into security operations, enabling proactive identification and mitigation of emerging threats. Operating in a complex digital environment, the analyst supports strategic initiatives, aligns practices with institutional risk posture, and contributes to sector-wide resilience. The position provides situational awareness of adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), informs decision-making across governance, risk, and compliance, and strengthens incident detection and response. It offers opportunities to represent the University in national forums, collaborate with leading partners, and drive innovation in threat intelligence.

Key Responsibilities
The Senior Cyber Threat Intelligence Analyst will:
- Conduct advanced threat intelligence analysis to identify emerging cyber risks and inform defensive strategies.
- Develop and maintain threat intelligence feeds and indicators of compromise (IOCs) relevant to the University’s technology landscape.
- Integrate threat intelligence into security operations workflows, supporting proactive detection and response.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure intelligence outputs align with operational needs and compliance requirements.
- Contribute to cyber incident investigations, providing contextual intelligence and adversary profiling.
- Support the development of threat modelling frameworks, including MITRE ATT&CK and kill chain methodologies.
- Maintain relationships with external intelligence-sharing communities, including sector partners and government bodies.
- Prepare intelligence briefings and reports for technical and executive audiences
- Ensure threat intelligence activities are embedded in University cyber risk management processes.
- Champion the adoption of automation, AI-driven analytics, and advanced tooling to increase the effectiveness and timeliness of intelligence outputs.
Who we’re looking for
The ideal candidate will bring a combination of technical expertise, analytical skills, and collaborative spirit. We are seeking someone who demonstrates:
- Tertiary qualifications in Cyber Security, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in cyber threat intelligence analysis, reporting, and operational integration.
- Strong understanding of threat intelligence frameworks and adversary tactics
- Hands-on experience with cyber threat intelligence platforms (TIPs), SIEM/SOAR tools, and open-source intelligence (OSINT) frameworks.
- Familiarity with structured intelligence standards (e.g., STIX/TAXII), MITRE ATT&CK, Cyber Kill Chain, Diamond Model, or similar frameworks.
- Experience with automation/scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for threat data enrichment.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills, translating complex intelligence into actionable insights.
- Ability to contribute to incident response with timely and context-rich threat intelligence.
- Experience representing organisations in intelligence-sharing communities or sector/government forums.
- Experience with threat modelling tools and methodologies.
- Experience in enabling or conducting threat hunts.
It is desirable that the successful candidate have:
- Industry certifications (e.g., CTIA, GCTI, CISSP).
- Experience in higher education, government, or critical infrastructure sectors.
- Knowledge of national cybersecurity frameworks and reporting requirements (e.g., ACSC Essential Eight, ISM).

Remuneration Package: HEW Level 8 $138,029 to $153,227 p.a. (comprising Salary of $116,636 to $129,479 p.a., plus Superannuation and Leave Loading).
